Message from the Director

India is a treasure trove of artistic expression, intricately woven into its rich cultural fabric. A gallery serves as both a sanctuary for artists to share their creations & a space for the audience to experience, appreciate, & connect with the emotions behind each piece. Art, in its many forms, transcends mere aesthetics—it is a universal language, present in the natural world, in human evolution, & in every cultural nuance. Across India, artists from diverse backgrounds—urban, rural, tribal, modern—use art as a powerful means of communication. Yet, much of this artistry, especially from unorganised sectors or rural & tribal communities, remains underappreciated in the commercial world.

In today’s fast-paced, industrialised world, we’ve grown disconnected from this innate artistry. Though art surrounds us, we often overlook it. Galleries are crucial in bridging this gap, introducing art to people of all ages & helping them to express themselves creatively while cultivating a deeper appreciation for the world around them. This is especially important for women & children, who are central to HAP’s mission.

At HAP, we believe in the transformative power of art to shift consciousness. Our mission is to create a space where a wide array of artistic disciplines can thrive, with a special focus on marginalised communities & underrepresented voices, particularly women & children. We are dedicated to preserving regional art forms that are in danger of fading away, & to providing our audience with a unique, immersive experience that transcends traditional boundaries.

HAP is more than a gallery—it is a vibrant, creative hub. From live events & pottery workshops to film screenings & interactive installations, we offer a platform where art can flourish & inspire. Our goal is to ensure that the artistic spirit—whether traditional, modern, or experimental—remains alive & continues to evolve.

Our focus at HAP is to create an immersive environment where exhibition design & art installation converge to transform space & alter perceptions. The idea of creating an “environment” in art was first referenced by artist Allan Kaprow, who, after viewing a Jackson Pollock exhibit, described the intense emotional impact it had on him. He noted that the paintings transcended their form & became environments themselves. This deep emotional & intellectual connection is something we continually strive to evoke.

In 1971, artist Daniel Buren distinguished between “exhibition design” & “art installation” while discussing the idea of the environment. He criticised traditional museum exhibitions for separating art from its original context, suggesting that “installation” has since replaced the concept of an exhibition. In 1979, the term “Installation” was formally recognized as synonymous with “Environmental Art.”

At HAP, we aim to create immersive environments that engage & transform the viewer’s reality. Both art installations & exhibition design are tools we use to transform spaces & offer an unforgettable experience. A well-crafted exhibit, for example, can transport visitors to the depths of the ocean, immersing them in a new world that lingers in memory long after the experience.

While all art installations can be considered exhibitions, not all exhibitions achieve the level of immersion required to be installations. For us, the most powerful installations are those that use multiple media to create a truly immersive experience, transforming physical space into a new reality for the audience.

Our mixed-media installations incorporate elements like Audio Installation Art, Street Installation Art, Sculpture Fabrication, Video Installation Art, Virtual Reality (VR), & Conceptual Installation Art.

HAP, by blending various forms of media offers endless possibilities that foster a deep, meaningful connection to art.

Hina’s Art Pavilion (HAP) is a groundbreaking space, marking its place as India’s first national gallery uplifting the voices of all artists, specifically dedicated to showcasing the works of women and children artists.
